Whitaker's homer helps top Central Private 7-6

Blake Landry looked like the season ended yesterday instead of 4 weeks ago with his 5 strong innings of 1 run baseball as he notched his first win (1-0) of the summer.

The wolfpack offense steadily pounded the Central Private pitching starting in the 3rd inning where a Connor Callihan infield single led off, then a Beau Taylor was hit by a pitch to bring up Cameron Callihan who laid down a picture perfect sacrifice bunt that he beat out even though the throw went into right field scoring Connor. Beau would later score on a Russell Gage ground ball and Cameron on a Lee Whitaker single putting them up 3-1 and a lead they would not relinquish.

In the 5th inning we saw Lee Whitaker came up with 2 outs and Cameron Callihan and Russell Gage on the bases. He would take the 1-0 pitch well over the right field fences for his first homerun of summer.

Beau Taylor ran into a little trouble on the mound in the 6th but Junior Caleb Nunez was able to get out of it and pitch a scoreless 7th to hang on to the 7-6 victory, thanks in large part to a Matthew Saia throw to home on a ground ball that would end the rebel threat.

Rouge Metro takes on East Ascension tomorrow at St Michaels HS at 515pm, players be there at 4

Wolfpack land 2 on FIRST TEAM - ALL DISTRICT

Russell Gage Jr. SS/P (Junior) - Russell was the leagues MVP runner-up and a shoe-in for the first team all district after hitting and eye popping .506 on the year. To add his presence at the plate Russell set a school record stealing 34 bases (36 attempts). He was not a vocal guy but one who leads by example playing hard every game no matter the score or situation. Gage was the everyday shortstop for the wolfpack when he was not pitching and showcased range thats rare to high school baseball.

Gage: Ba Avg .506, 6 doubles, 2 HR, 20 RBI, 30 Runs, and 34 SB

Jacob Stagg C/P (Sophomore) - Jacob was the quarterback of the defense behind the plate this year starting everygame back there minus his 4 pitching starts. On top of his catching duties Jacob managed to hit a blistering .421 in his sophomore season and led the team with 8 doubles and 21 RBI's. Stagg's vast improvement at the plate and behind the dish were a testament to how talented he can be when he works hard

Stagg: Ba Avg .421 8 doubles, 1 HR, 21 RBI and 18 Runs scored

Second Team ALL-DISTRICT

Blake Landry P (Junior) - Blake made the second team as a pitcher and was the most consistent wolfpack pitcher throughout the season. The highlights of Blake's season came when he threw 7 innings of 1 run baseball versus 5A Live Oak and 8 strong innings against cross town rival Dunham only surrendering 3 earned runs. Blake was well deserving of second team and was a bulldog on the mound always wanting the ball.

Landry: Ba Avg .319  5 doubles, 1 triple, 21 RBI and 17 BB

Lee Whitaker RF (Sophomore) - Lee Whitaker played in all 27 games this season and had 26 starts, He was arguably the wolves best defensive outfielder through the course of the season only making 2 errors. Lee's bat at times lead the wolfpack offense as he managed to hit .375 for his sophomore year and deserving of second team.

Whitaker:  Ba Avg .375, 4 doubles, 13 RBI, 13 Runs, and 5 Stolen Bases

Honorable Mention ALL - DISTRICT TEAM

The wolfpack were fortunate enough to have 4 players land on the District 7-2A honorable mention team that was voted on by the coaches.

Jake Crocker 1B (Senior) - Jake spoke softly but carried a big stick on the field and in the locker room. A quiet leader who always would do the right thing. Jake was a staple for us starting all 27 games at first base and slowly crept his way up the batting lineup to finish the season in the 4 hole. Jake was able to make this honorable mention team with his glove work at first base. Arguably the best defense first basemen in the district

Crocker: Ba Avg .214, 1 double, 7 RBI, and 7 runs scored

Luke Jackson 2B (Junior) - Luke finished the year as a threat at the plate batting .319 for the year while leading the team with 2 triples and on the bags with 7 stolen bases. He would slowly become a very viable second basemen after his transition from the outfield and that was dedicated to the hard work and time outside of practice he was willing to put in.

Jackson: Ba Avg .319, 1 double, 2 triples, 7 RBI, and 15 runs scored

Cameron Callihan SS/3B (Freshman) - Cameron was the pure definition of a utility man. For the wolfpack in Varsity games he played left fielf, right field, center field, second base, shortstop and third base. He did all well too. Camerons bat came on late but his fielding carried him the whole season, he played at a high level in the field from opening night.

Callihan: Ba Avg .225 4 doubles, 8 RBI, 6 SB and 17 runs scored

Connor Callihan OF (Freshman) - Connor fluctuated throughout the lineup batting anywhere from 2nd to 8th and did a good job throughout. He was able to record 2 hits in his first playoff appearance against high quality pitching. After his move from the infield to center Connor instantly became an above average position player as he would roam the green ocean for the last 20 games of the year.

Callihan:  Ba Avg .282  3 RBI, 6 SB and 8 runs scored

7th inning burst isn't enough as RHS ends season 7-4

The atmosphere was electric Friday night in New Iberia with more than 200 fans on hand as the hosting Panthers of Catholic High took on the Redemptorist Wolfpack.

The wolves would strike first when senior Jake Crocker would score Luke Jackson from second on a single in the top of the first inning. The Panthers would come back with a run of their own to tie things at 1.

The bottom of the third is where Catholic high would pull away. With runners on first and second and no outs, Junior pitcher Blake Landry would sail a sacrifice bunt through into right field and help spark a 4 run inning which kept Redemptorist at Bay for the rest of the game

Down 7-3 in the top of the seventh the wolves would give it their best shot. Blake Landry would lead off with a 4 pitch walk to get on base. Beau Taylor would strike out looking bringing up Connor Callihan. Connor would send a base knock into left field followed by a ground ball single from his brother Cameron to the six hole to load up the bases for Russell Gage. After a pitching change, Russell would send first pitch fastball into left field at the blink of an eye making it 7-4.Luke Jackson would have a quality 6 pitch at bat before striking out swinging for the second out. Jacob Stagg who had already gathered 2 hits would send a slow roller to short and get thrown out by a hair to end the game and season for the Wolves.

I want to thank everyone who helped out with this team, the players and coaches on a well fought season. Go Wolfpack

STATE PLAYOFFS BOUND!!!

Final Power Rankings are in!

The Wolfpack Baseball program became the only sport this year to crack the state playoffs for Redemptorist High School.

The Wolfpack finished the regular season ranked 27th in the state and will square off Friday Night at No.6 Catholic of New Iberia at 6PM

Wolves can't climb out of 5-0 hole, Lose 6-5

Unearned runs were the achilles heel for the Wolfpack as they lost 6-5 to Ascension Catholic in Donaldsonville Monday Night.

Russell Gage took the hill for Redemptorist throwing 5 innings allowing 3 earned runs. The wolfpack offense sputtered through the first five innings only recording 3 hits. Things started off on the wrong foot when Russell Gage led off the first inning with a single and a stolen base, and Luke Jackson was unable to bunt him over to third on three attempts, which was followed by a Jacob Stagg and Blake Landry strikeout.

After being down 5-0 in the top of the sixth the bats finally came alive plating 2 runs on hits but Jacob Stagg, Lee Whitaker, Beau Taylor and Connor Callihan.

another unearned run in the bottom frame of the sixth would extend the bulldog lead to 6-2. The wolves still had some fight as they would score 3 runs in the top of the seventh and leave the tying run on first base.

Redemptorist will find out who it plays in the Louisiana 2A State Playoffs later tonight

News and Notes
- Russell Gage 3-4, 2 SB
- Jacob Stagg 2-4, 2B, RBI
- Lee Whitaker 2-3 BB
- Beau Taylor, 2-4 2B RBI

U-High swings past Redemptorist 10-2

It was a windy day at Emerald Park and balls flew out at a rapid pace with 4 homeruns being hit. Unfortunately 3 of them were by University High. As well as 23 hits total (UH 12- RH 11)

With the wolves ace Blake Landry posting a 0 in the first inning and Redemptorist scoring 1 in the bottom frame things started to look up for the wolfpack, but a 2 run second and a 4 run third was too much for the young wolfpack to bear. They would go on to lose 10-2

News and Notes

Jacob Stagg finished the game 2-3 with a HR
Cameron Callihan 2-4
Russell Gage 1-3 SB
Luke Jackson 1-4
Beau Taylor 2-4

Errors doom RHS versus Dunham, 10-2

7 Too many errors for the Wolfpack offense to overcome on Friday night. Russell Gage was the starting pitcher for RHS but they could never get the pitching and fielding in sync. a 3 run first inning (all unearned) and a 2 run second was all the Dunham Tigers would need as they went on to win 10-2

The struggles continued on offense as they were only able to manage 4 hits, two coming from the pitcher Russell Gage as well as 3 stolen bases

Connor Callihan and Luke Jackson also recorded hits

Redemptorist takes on U-High at home Tuesday night JV 330 and Varsity at 6, Sophomore Jacob Stagg will be on the hill for RHS
